Authorities in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur suspended internet and mobile services and imposed an indefinite curfew on Saturday in areas where protesters were besieging politicians' homes over deadly inter-ethnic violence.

An Indian state riven by months of ethnic tensions imposed an internet shutdown and curfew Saturday after angry protests over the recovery of six bodies of people believed to have been kidnapped by insurgents.

The discovery of six bodies — believed to belong to the Hindu Meitei community — sparked anger in the eastern Indian state. Protesters targeted politicians as Hindu and Christian groups clash.

The curfew was imposed for an indefinite period in several districts including Imphal East and West. Authorities also suspended internet services temporarily in seven districts on Saturday evening.
