Madras High Court on Sunday remanded Tamil actor Kasthuri Shankar to judicial custody until November 29. Her arrest follows the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court denying her anticipatory bail in a case related to derogatory remarks allegedly targeting the Telugu community.

Kasthuri Shankar, who had been in the news earlier last month for stating that Telugu people trace their lineage to courtesans in ancient kingdoms in India, was in hiding to avoid arrest. On Saturday,

Actor Kasturi Shankar stoked controversy by saying, "The Telugu-speaking community came as assistants to the king's consort and later adopted a Tamil identity," while engaging in divisive politics." She made the comments during a speech she delivered at a protest meeting on November 3.

Actress Kasthuri Shankar was arrested in Hyderabad on November 16th for allegedly making hateful remarks against the Telugu community. The arrest follows the Madras High Court's rejection of her anticipatory bail plea.
