The party of Sri Lanka’s new Marxist-leaning President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has won a majority in parliament, according to official election results, providing a solid mandate for his program for economic revival.

The working class will rapidly come into conflict with the JVP/NPP government, which while posturing as anti-establishment, is a right-wing communalist party committed to imposing IMF austerity.

The NPP, headed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, achieved a historic 2/3 majority in Parliament, marking the first time a single party has done so under the Proportional Representation system
